Chemical Safety in the Workplace
Course Description - The Chemical Safety in the Workplace is a basic introductory course into the requirements for safe use of chemicals and hazardous substances in the work environment.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Requirements for a manufacturer, supplier, employer and employee regarding chemical safety via legislation
- What Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are, what information is required to be in them, and how to read them
- Requirements for labelling of chemicals
- Resources for more information
Students will be issued with workbooks that will contain extracts from WorkCover publications relevant to the safe use of chemicals, MSDS` and reading labels. Additionally, a glossary of common terms and acronyms used in the general documentation of chemicals and hazardous substances is included. A short written assessment at the completion of the session checks for understanding of the key points for information required from MSDS`.
